Eden House

  /    /  Eden House

Galle, Sri Lanka

This original 18th century Dutch house located in the galle fort had been virtually left to ruin. The only salvageable part of the house was the front main section. Towards the rear end of the site was evidence of a simple colonnade wing, which was beyond restoration. The site was carefully and painstakingly surveyed to understand the original foundation footings and the Dutch sewage links below. This dictated the final design layout. The client’s brief was to create a family home and to be sympathetic to the original house with a main internal courtyard. An eclectic Moroccan twist gave flavour and identity to the house and reflected the owner’s personal lifestyle.
